The two primary ways of working from home while still using the resources of your business telephone system both utilize using an internet connection to either an On-Premise PBX (in which the hardware appliance is kept on-site in your server closet) or a Hosted PBX (where your phones connect through your Internet connection to a cloud based data center). When considering the choice between an On-Premise PBX or a Hosted PBX there are many factors to consider. We feel that there is no "Best" solution. The decision should be based upon the unique needs of the organization. Below are a few of the advantages and disadvantages of Hosted and Premise based VoIP Telephone Systems.

Hosted PBX
  • One of the single biggest advantages of a Hosted PBX is that it is hosted in a data center. Data Centers are equipped with redundant internet connections, emergency power generators, enterprise level security and often multiple POP's, or "Points Of Presence". If the power goes out, you can continue to conduct business across multiple devices with your hosted phone system. This will not happen with an on-premise system.
  • Op-Ex instead of Cap-x, turning a costly investment into an affordable monthly cost. No need to worry about replacing or maintaining expensive hardware.
  • System software is updated at no cost as upgraded features become available.
  • Advanced features and mobility options are available for a much lower price point with some providers.
  • Ease of implementation and excellent for multi-site organizations, or organizations that have many remote or mobile workers.

On-Premise PBX
  • Best for large organizations which will benefit from lower operating expense per unit.
  • More flexibility interfacing with external software systems such as call center or CRM.
  • Better in environments with legacy wiring and/or where a large number of digital or analog handsets are required.

In the end there are many factors that will lead to finding the right fit. We have been installing telephone systems for various size businesses in every conceivable business sector of NYC for over 15 years. We have serviced all major brands of on premise hardware and a great deal of different hosted PBX products. We have seen the good, the bad and the ugly! We would be happy to sit down and listen to your concerns and come up with a few possible solutions.

Unlike most other hardware and hosted providers we are not wed to one solution. We will work with you to determine what is best for you.
